Broward man accused of accidentally shooting wife while high on cocaine, possibly leaving her paralyzed

Police responded to a home near the 1200 block of Southwest 28th Road in Fort Lauderdale after receiving a report of a shooting Monday. Police said they found the victim holding a blanket around her neck while her husband, identified as 27-year-old Sean William Wollard, was standing nearby.

While rendering aid, the victim told officers, “It was an accident, (Wollard) didn’t mean to do it,” according to the police report.

Wollard, without questioning, allegedly told police, “I was looking for the cat all day, I went inside, put on a movie and got some cocaine, the report states. “I went to put the firearm on and the gun went off.”

He later made further comments, saying, “he doesn’t remember much and his memory was hazy,” authorities said.

Inside the home, investigators observed a coffee table covered in “a white powdery substance and numerous open bottles of alcohol.” Three guns were found in the room, including the one used in the shootings, which was not secured, according to police.

Doctors at Broward General Hospital told investigators that the victim’s gunshot wound could lead to permanent paralysis. Police also noted a black burn mark around the wound, indicating a close-range leak.

Authorities said Wollard “physically and intentionally manipulated the firearm while under the influence of cocaine” and fired it, striking the victim. The couple has been married since 2018, police added.

Wollard appeared in bond court Wednesday, where a judge set bond at $15,000 on a charge of using a firearm while under the influence. He was ordered to comply with pretrial supervision, including wearing a GPS monitor, undergo a substance abuse evaluation within 10 days and submit to random testing.

The court also prohibited Wollard from possessing any firearms, weapons or ammunition while the case is pending.
