Quality Seafood Sales Manager to Serve Jail for Role in Seafood Mislabeling

Todd Rosetti will spend 8 months in federal prison for his role in mislabeling seafood at Quality Seafood and Poultry.

The seafood distribution company’s sales manager was the only person sentenced to prison for his role in the scandal that also included Mary Mahoney’s Old French House restaurant.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Sul Ozerden sentenced Rosetti to serve 6 months of house arrest, one year of probation and a $1,000 fine on a misdemeanor charge of mislabeling seafood, which was part of a plea agreement reached at the beginning of the year. He must also perform 100 hours of community service.

According to media partner Sun Herald, Ozerden called Rosetti “… the ultimate authority on this scheme. He was the driving force.”

Quality’s business manager, James Gunkel, was sentenced to two years’ probation, one year’s house arrest and a $1,000 fine for his misdemeanor plea to seafood mislabeling. He must also perform 50 hours of community service.

Owner Clell Rosetti represented Seafood and Poultry for the sentence. The company was placed on five years’ probation and fined $500,000, in addition to forfeiting $1 million to the US Marshal Service and paying a $400 special assessment.

The Sun Herald reported that Clell Rosetti told the judge that he and his wife are taking a more active role in the business.

“My wife and I will see to it that this never happens again,” he told the judge. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
