Woman sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder of the policeman

HUDSON — A Columbia County woman was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison with five years of post-release supervision for the attempted murder of a police officer in 2020, according to the Columbia District Attorney’s office.

Madison A. Kreutzer of Livingston was convicted of attempted second-degree murder by a Columbia County jury in August. The 38-year-old was sentenced this week before Judge E. Danielle Jose-Decker.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, she was also convicted of first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, as well as prohibitions on the use and possession of a firearm, a misdemeanor. For the two felony charges, she was also sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison, to be served concurrently. For the misdemeanor charge, she was sentenced to three months.

Kreutzer has been held in the Columbia County Jail since her trial ended this summer, according to the district attorney’s office.

State police initially responded to Doodletown Road in Gallatin in November 2020 to investigate a report of a suspicious person, police said at the time. In a news release this week, the district attorney’s office said police responded to the home after a report of a “suspect holding a gun” and that “four civilians — two housekeepers and two landscapers — were also on the property.” . When a state police sergeant approached the residence, Kreutzer fired at least two shots, according to the DA’s office.

“Kreutzer retreated to the house and after negotiations with the police he was arrested without incident. No injuries were reported,” the prosecutor’s office wrote.

Prosecutor Chris Liberati-Conant and Chief First Assistant Cheryl Botts represented the state in the case. Albany attorney James Knox represented Kreutzer.
