Man Arrested For Pretending To Be Uber Driver And Steal Cryptocurrency From Victims

A man has been arrested and charged with theft and fraud after he pretended to be an Uber driver and stole cryptocurrency from his victims.

Nuruhussein Hussein, 39, of Tempe, was arrested by Scottsdale police on Dec. 11.

Scottsdale police allege Hussein posed as a rideshare driver between March and December 2024. Hussein allegedly obtained his victims’ phones and transferred their cryptocurrency holdings to his account.

According to court records, Hussein called the victims by name outside the W Hotel in Scottsdale. After the victims got into his car, Hussein demanded to see their phones, claiming there was a problem with the Uber app, while he secretly transferred funds.

One victim told police Hussein threatened him, saying “If you don’t relax, something bad will happen.”

At the time of his arrest, Scottsdale police believe Hussein stole more than $200,000.

Scottsdale police detectives worked with Secret Service special agents on the case.

Hussein’s next court hearing is scheduled for December 18.
