Shoplifters jailed after robbery in Solihull

THE FIGHT against shoplifters and attacks on retail staff continues in Solihull after three were jailed.

In recent months, Smiths Wood and Chelmsley Wood neighborhood teams have arrested and prosecuted a number of people responsible for shoplifting and assaults on staff.

Three criminals arrested by squads last week have been jailed for shoplifting in Chelmsley Wood, Smiths Wood and the surrounding area.

Paul Jones, 50, was jailed for 30 weeks after stealing from Poundland in Chestnut Walk, as well as breaching a criminal behavior order banning him from the area.

Another offender, Daniel Boulton, 36, was jailed for 12 months after being convicted of a string of thefts from Morrisons and the Co-Op in both Smiths Wood and Birmingham , during the month of November.

A third offender, William McInteggert, 37, was jailed for 40 weeks for a series of shoplifting incidents in Birmingham and Solihull in November.



West Midlands Police said since the start of April, Chelmsley Wood and Smiths Wood squads have arrested 45 people for a total of 205 shoplifting offences, leading to 170 charges.

He added: “These arrests and charges are helping to insure more businesses and customers, as knowing where and when theft offenses take place, together with knowing who is responsible, helps us plan our patrols and operations and develop our intelligence picture .”
