Birch Run police officer OK after being nearly injured by a suspected stolen vehicle

BIRCH RUN, MI (WNEM) – A Birch Run police officer is OK after a burglary suspect nearly hit her with her vehicle, according to Chief Jason Leidel.

Police Officer responded to Birch Run Meijer in reference to a shoplifting call that occurred on Thursday, December 12th.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officer made contact with the suspect who was in her vehicle with the driver’s side door open, Leidel said.

While he was talking to the suspect, she put the vehicle in reverse, trapping the officer in the vehicle’s sill, Leidel said, adding that he was able to escape the vehicle before being pulled over.

Leidel said the officer was not injured.

The police department, with the help of other law enforcement agencies, was able to identify the suspect who will be taken to the Saginaw County Jail.

Leidel thanked everyone concerned about the officer’s safety.
