Duo accused of running from police for weeks; guns, drugs and more recovered from Nashville arrest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A duo is facing charges after running from officers multiple times in the past two weeks, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

On Thursday evening, detectives spotted a Nissan Altima in the area of ​​Jackson Street and 16th Avenue North that had allegedly fled from officers several times over the past two weeks.

The driver, Zahnaee Chaney, 27, fled as officers attempted a traffic stop. Chaney allegedly pulled into a driveway behind a home on 12th Avenue North. Detectives ordered her to stop, but she drove off.

Shortly after, the car crashed into a nearby light pole. Chaney and her passenger, 41-year-old Calvert Johnson, were later arrested. MNPD reports Johnson had two outstanding warrants for vandalism and aggravated trespassing.

Police recovered two guns after searching the suspects and the car. Both Chaney and Johnson are felons, MNPD said. At the time of her arrest, Chaney was out on bond on two counts of theft of property.

“Also recovered from the Altima was a stolen license plate, a stolen license plate, 3.6 grams of cocaine, and a THC vape,” MNPD said.

Both face charges of being a felon in possession of a handgun and drug possession. Chaney faces additional charges of theft of property, vandalism to government property, evading arrest and reckless driving.
